Asha Banks, British actress, singer and songwriter, recently held a press conference discussing her newest EP, “How Real Was It?,” speaking on her songwriting experience, journey and what this EP means to her.
The EP consists of eight tracks, all following a clear emotional arc. It is centered around the message of living in the moment, experiencing life and looking back at how far you’ve come. In a previous interview, she said that “‘How Real Was It?’ is the first lyric in the song “Done is Done.”
“Since I wrote that lyric, I have loved it,” Banks said. “It sort of encapsulated the feeling of this EP .Especially with it looking back on “Untie My Tongue,” my last EP, it feels like, ‘how real was that whole chapter of my life?’”
In a Zoom conference with many journalists, Banks graciously answered every question with enthusiasm and authenticity. When asked about the creation and thought process of her newest EP, she spoke openly about vulnerability in songwriting and that honesty, while intimidating, is an important component of the process for meaningful music. For Banks, this EP represents a deeper level of emotional transparency and growth as an artist.

Banks shared that her opinions are ever changing and that she fluctuates between her feelings and favorites.
“But no, I truly love them all,” Banks said. “I think I’ve been asked before, like, about my favorite song, and it’s not even like I’m secretly holding back an answer to, like, not have a favorite child — I genuinely love all of them for so many different reasons.”
Banks said that this project was important for the songs that really worked together when figuring out the EP. All the songs were reflective, key parts of the EP.
When the conversation turned to fashion and its relationship with her work in acting and music, Banks emphasized the connection between those creative outlets for her.

“Fashion, music and acting all are pieces of me, and I have to bring bits and bobs of myself to them all, and they kinda flourish in different ways,” Banks said. “But definitely, I love fashion; it's such an important thing for me, and I love even if I'm not, like, proactively like thinking of storytelling, it definitely tells a story.”
For Banks, fashion is not only a storytelling tool but also a powerful form of self-expression which flows naturally within her acting and music.
Asha Banks had an exceptionally busy year in 2025. “My Fault: London” premiered in February of 2025, followed by the release of her first EP, “Untie My Tongue,” in March.
