From 2006 until now, Taylor Swift has never gone out of style. Swift is known for her different eras, as she performs each one as their own individual aesthetic. And like her changing eras, her personal style has evolved over the years. From cowboy boots and natural curls to being decked out completely in jewels, Swift has never been afraid to express herself and her music through fashion.
2000s Country Fringe

Swift began her music career when she was still in high school. Growing up in Pennsylvania and Tennessee, she was raised as a true country girl. In the era of her earlier albums (self-titled “Taylor Swift,” “Fearless” and “Speak Now”), Swift can be seen in music videos and performances wearing short, fringed-bottom dresses paired with cowboy boots.
Her hair was always in its natural form — big, voluminous curls. In many of her performances, Swift was often seen flipping her hair or wearing a cowboy hat to show her country roots.
Her fashion in this era perfectly encapsulated her music style, as she often sang with a country twang and collaborated with artists such as Keith Urban and Tim McGraw.
Tumblr Hipster

As Swift released her popular 2012 album “Red,” she began to transition from a spunky farmgirl to an artist with a more twee-esque, simple look. Swift developed her true “Taylor Swift” staples in this era, such as the iconic bang and red lip — both of which she is still seen wearing today.
Around this time, Swift was often spotted in muted colors, such as navy, maroon or white. Swift dressed for autumn, wearing button up coats, beanies and scarfs. With patterns such as polka dots or plaid, her outfits contained many clashing colors and patterns that perfectly encapsulated the 2010s.
Her hair had a slight wave, mostly fully down or up in a high ponytail during this era. Her signature bangs were left down, untouched by whichever hairstyle she chose.
One of the most iconic looks from this era comes from her “22” music video, featuring key accessories like the fan-dubbed “22 hat” and heart sunglasses.
Spontaneous Street Style

When Swift was 24, she moved to New York City with her friends to create the dramatic transition of country to pop in her music. Her style instantly became more bold as she walked around the Big Apple.
The most pivotal aspect of this era is Swift’s drastic hair change. From long waves with straight bangs, she switched it up to a shoulder-length bob with a side bang.
Swift was often seen wearing two pieces, as well as a full dress on occasion. Her color pallet was more light and cool, often highlighted by colors like white or light blue. Throughout this era, particularly on the 1989 world tour, she paired her outfits with sunglasses. While bolder than her street style, she still kept cool colors in the mix.
Bold Switch-Ups

Before the release of “Reputation,” Swift disappeared from the internet and went unseen for weeks. With her sudden return, she announced a new era of dark, modern pop music. Unsurprisingly, she had no trouble matching her style to this evolution.
Like her new music, her style became much more bold. Shortly before the release of “Reputation,” Swift debuted her short-lived “Bleachella” era. Swift’s new look featured platinum blonde hair, first seen at Coachella in 2016.

This new, edgy statement may have just been a phase — she shortly transitioned back to her dirty-blonde hair — but she still kept the boldness in her everyday street style. Similar to the release of “Reputation,” this was a step outside of her comfort zone.

The “Lover” era followed “Reputation.” While the color palette completely changed, Swift still kept up with her striking color pops and patterns. She transformed her looks, going from dark grays and blacks to bright pinks and neon colors.
Cottagecore Coziness

When sister albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” were released in 2020, Swift traded boldness for muted tones and soft florals, embodying the aesthetic of somebody living in a secluded woodland cottage.
Swift was often spotted in earthy tones such as beige, forest green and shades of brown. She represented autumn with ease in her heavy sweaters, flannels and the iconic cardigan. Similar to the music in these two albums, her style presented feelings of coziness and mellow vibes.
Making the Whole Place Shimmer

Ever since the release of “Midnights” (2022), Swift has loved sparkling in the spotlight. While keeping her signature red lip and straight bangs, Swift has been showing bold, glamorous looks.
Her outfits have become noticeably trendier, often featuring mini-skirts and rhinestones. Her coordinated looks allow her to appear luxurious and preppy wherever she goes.
Swift has also been seen repping more of a sporty look, thanks to now-fiance Travis Kelce. Swift is Kelce’s biggest cheerleader, always attending his games in Chiefs merch and with no shortage of pep in her step.
No matter what she’s feeling, Swift loves to represent her current musical era with her sense of style. If she keeps this pattern up, daring and show-stopping appearances will certainly be seen after the Oct. 3 release of “The Life of a Showgirl.”
