If you’re trying to pick your favorite Chappell Roan look, well, “Good Luck, Babe.”

“Red Wine Supernova,” HOT TO GO!” and “Good Luck, Babe” are only a few of the many Chappell Roan songs that have been climbing the charts recently.

Seemingly an overnight success, Roan is the newest self-declared queer pop icon, dubbing herself the “Midwest Princess.” Though her popularity is only now coming to a head, she has been releasing songs since Aug. 3, 2017, her first drop was a single titled “Good Hurt.”

Since then—and with only a few stumbles along the way—she has been fine-tuning not only her unique sound, but also her stunning, not-so-casual look.

In recent years, fans have turned their favorite artists’ concerts into an excuse to show up and show out. From Harry Styles’ bright boas to Beyonce’s sparkling bodysuits, every fan knows that the concerts of today are an excuse for a full-on fashion show.

Roan has taken this in stride, going as far as to assign a specific theme to each of her different shows across the United States. In a series of Instagram posts, she laid out every show’s mood board, with some themes even referencing lyrics from her songs.

While Columbus, Ohio, was assigned “My Kink is Karma” —think black and blood red, heartbreak-inspired attire— Raleigh, North Carolina, was hit with “Pink Pony Club,” paying homage to Roan’s 2000s upbringing, Dolly Parton and cowgirls everywhere.

If there’s one thing Roan understands, it’s extravagance. Since her rise to fame, she has donned corsets, beads and a full face of makeup, the latter seeming to be inspired by old-fashioned dolls and clowns.

No matter what she wears, every one of her outfits manages to do the absolute most, while simultaneously exuding pure “Chappell.” Ever a lover of the famous “camp” theme, Roan’s most recent performance at the 2024 New York City Governors Ball took nearly everyone in the audience by surprise.

Picture this: a giant, red apple, beginning to crack down the middle. Suddenly, smoke starts to pour out of every orifice, slipping down onto the stage below. A figure rises from destruction, and there she is. Chappell Roan, with her entire body painted Statue-of-Liberty-green, smoking the largest blunt you’ve ever seen. With a crown, assless chaps and mint green boots, she is ready to bring you to your knees.

Roan embodied New York City in every way she knew how, donning cheap NYC charms around her neck and holding a torch in her right hand. With one of her beloved tour themes being “Mermaid,” we know where she must have gotten the inspiration. Black and green leather straps stemming from her waist cascaded down her legs, making her look like a twisted “Mermaid of Liberty,” having just crawled her way out of the Hudson River.

She didn’t stop here, though. Halfway through her set, Roan ran backstage and changed into a taxi costume, coming back on to parade around the stage in bright yellow.

Whether she is dressing like a fairy, a queen or even a football player—what could be a throwback to her high school days of running cross country—there is no doubt that she is going to absolutely nail it.

From here, the only thing left to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Roan is an absolute force of vocals and vogue, and we cannot wait to see what she does next.
