In 2019 VSCO, a photo-editor app, grew to popularity bringing with it the Hydro Flask.

VSCO girls – young, usually white women who post trendy photos edited on the app – caught a lot of heat for being attached at the hip to their Hydro Flasks. However, they might have had the right idea when it came to lugging around the $40 colorful chunks of metal.

Not only are these water bottles environmentally friendly, but they serve as suitable accessories.

Over the years, water bottle trends have evolved just as fashion trends have evolved.

Contigos took over the early 2010s, paving the way for the Gatorade squirt bottles in the later part of the decade.

Consumers grew weary of the unappealing and unsustainable nature of what Gatorade had to offer, hence the overwhelming emergence of Hydro Flasks.

Hydro Flasks ruled the world of water bottles for quite some time until Stanley made its presence known.

Stanley offers a large variety of bottles and tumblers in a multitude of colors and patterns. The simple and sleek design of the products cast a large appeal to consumers.

However, Stanley cups have their downsides. Recently the cups have been rumored to be plagued with lead and have a tendency to create large spills when knocked over.

While it appears that Stanley still has control over the water bottle market, Owala is steadily climbing its way to the top.

Given that these water bottles tend to be on the pricier side, consumers tend to give their water bottles room to shine by carrying them in a purse-like fashion, accessorizing them in an array of fashions that make them unique.

Stickers

Stickers are the ultimate water bottle accessory. These give the water bottles personality and individuality. Additionally, it’s easy to identify a person’s interests based on the stickers displayed on their water bottle.

Redbubble has been a popular website to buy stickers from, as the range of options is diverse and relatively low in price.

Due to the rise in water bottle sales, popular clothing stores such as Brandy Melville and Patagonia gift customers free stickers with their purchases.

Boots

Water bottle boots are colorful silicone coverings that can be added to the bottom of water bottles to muffle the “clang” they produce when placed on a hard surface.

Boots come in an array of different colors, typically available on the site the water bottle came from or Amazon.

This accessory is especially helpful when people have the same color water bottle, as boots can be great for differentiating whose is whose.

Bottle Colors

Water bottles are offered in all colors of the rainbow and there is sure to be a color for everyone.

Some hues are bright and loud, seemingly screaming at whoever dares to look at it, while other shades are rather mellow and soft.

Many water bottle companies offer two-tone bottles as it has become common to see two of the same colors contrasting each other.

The latest Starbucks x Stanley cup has a hot pink body with fuschia accents on the handle and lid. Combinations such as this one are simple but still make a statement.

Dents

One of the most devastating sounds to be heard is when a metal water bottle drops. Everyone seems to hold their breath to see if dents were produced.

Despite not knowing the origin of this saying, people often say “Dents give the water bottle character.”

Although once devastating, dents make the water bottles what they are.

As water bottle trends continue to change, how will you accessorize your water bottle?
