Today marks the beginning of New York City’s most anticipated fashion event: New York Fashion Week. Spanning from Feb. 6-11, this bi-annual production hosts the largest designers and collections of the season. Follow along for everything to know and look forward to this week.

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) kicks off what is commonly known as Fashion Month. Every February and September, Fashion Month gives designers a chance to showcase their collections for the upcoming season. According to an article from InStyle, it was first established in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert—a renowned publicist who wanted to expose American designers to the world after World War II.

NYFW hosts both foreign and American labels and is known for turning the spotlight on emerging talent in the fashion industry. Through runway shows, lectures and presentations, this week will bring to light every model and designer worth paying attention to.

Looking back, NYFW 2024 held many iconic moments. According to an article from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, February 2024 showcased more than 70 designers, including debut designers such as Bishme Cromartie, Colleen Allen and Jane Wade.

Flaunt Magazine details how The Blonds—a New York-based brand created by Phillipe and David Blond—used the theme, “Fuego,” to pay homage to their Latin roots. Brands like Coach and Sandy Liang took a trendy approach, incorporating the then-popular bow look into their collections.

During the second half of the year, NYFW was hosted from Sept. 6-11. Over the course of the week, 60 runway shows and 70 designers were presented, and Off-White, an Italian brand founded in 2013, made its NYFW debut. Unafraid to pull out all the stops, they were represented by celebrities such as Mary J. Blidge, Zayn Malik, Victoria Monet, Issa Rae and Sunisa Lee.

For this year's upcoming Fall/Winter collections, there is much to look forward to. According to an article from L’Officiel, 54 designers are set to present this week, some new and some old.

Alexis Bettar—a self taught jewelry designer—has his presentation on Feb. 7. He has worked with celebrities like Michelle Obama, Tyla, Megan Thee Stallion, Beyonce, Meghan Markle and Lady Gaga.

Using his deep-rooted nostalgia for knitwear, Gabe Gordan—best known for his woven pieces—will make his debut today, Feb. 6. FashionUnited’s recent article illuminates the motives behind his runway collection, “Rubber Boyfriend,” saying that Gordan explores identity in brilliant ways.

Vettese, created by Keri Vettese, is to host a runway show on Feb. 7. She has caught the attention of Kylie Jenner and Charlie XCX with her designs, which incorporate her Italian-American roots and life in Southern California.

Aside from these exciting new designers, there are many returning elements to look forward to. Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Coach, Luar, Michael Kors and Sandy Liang all plan to present this week, showcasing their best looks for this Fall-Winter selection.

This week, we’re sure to see everything from classic elegance to new, experimental styles. Pay attention and try not to blink; you won’t want to miss this.
