Kylie Jenner has pink hair. Again.

It’s no secret that Kylie Jenner is one of the biggest influencers of this generation; From growing up as a reality television star, to now being CEO of her own makeup company, Kylie Cosmetics, this social media icon has done it all. We really shouldn’t be surprised that she’s taken over the internet with a recent Instagram post showing off her new–old–look

The three pictures, captioned “hiiiii remember me,” showcase cotton candy pink hair, a true throwback to her 2014 self, one full of pastels and Tumblr memes. Not only is she emulating her old looks, but she’s also retaken her throne as “King Kylie,” the name paying homage to a 2018 Instagram phase, influenced by her then-boyfriend, rapper Tyga, also known by the name King Gold Chains.

Jenner has been known for a wild variety of looks, inspiring thousands of young people across the United States to recreate her looks. In March 2020, she reflected on her influence with Harper’s Bazaar, saying the surprise came at the age of 16 when she first started dying her hair.

“I started dyeing my hair blue and cut my hair off, and then everyone started dyeing their hair blue and cutting it off. And I was like, ‘Whoa,’” Jenner said during the interview.

Clearly, the world hasn’t changed much since 2013. There are already dozens of articles, Pinterest posts and TikToks detailing the exact products you’ll need to achieve Jenner’s newest look, all taken from her loyal stylist, Chris Appleton. Though this new era hearkens back to older times, the choice seems to have entirely new influences.

While Jenner may have previously been following trends of teenage angst-induced 2010s fashion, incomplete without a good pair of skinny jeans, colorful hair and bi-weekly trips to Hot Topic, we seemed to have converged in a new space altogether. Though the star captioned her most recent TikTok “heard it’s 2014 vibes this year,” it’s doubtful Jenner is still trying to play off of an era ruled by Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” no matter how much Timothée Chalamet seems to love women with pink hair.

In this day and age, we’ve seen a world of change in Jenner’s life. Just as she switched out Tyga for Chalamet, the fashion world has left the so-called “emo” trend behind, favoring the coquette aesthetic, a revival of haute couture and everything soft. With light pastels ruling the current scene, it’s no surprise  Jenner decided to put on her crown one last time.

There have been recent speculations over whether the pink was the expert work of a wig, due to new videos of Jenner using brown hair to promote her makeup brand. Well, wig or not, King Kylie has used her bold choices to rock the world time and time again, and there’s no way she’ll be giving up her throne anytime soon.
