Although the athletes are the stars of this show, these celebrities can’t help but steal the spotlight at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The first of the Olympic festivities, the Prelude to the Olympics party — hosted in Paris the day before the 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony at the Foundation Louis Vuitton — was the place to be for athletes and celebrities alike on Thursday.
The event was co-hosted by Louis Vuitton menswear creative director Pharrell Williams and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, alongside luxury brand LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault and other celebrities including Charlize Theron, Serena Williams, Rosalía and Omar Sy.
Many celebrities, including Jeremy Allen White, Zendaya, Spike Lee, Nina Dobrev, Shaun White, Emma Chamberlain, LeBron James, Snoop Dogg and more attended the event.
Sophia Bush & Ashlyn Harris
One of the standout looks from the event came from “One Tree Hill” star Sophia Bush and former U.S. women’s national soccer player Ashlyn Harris.
The couple showed up and showed out in coordinating metallic Christian Siriano looks. Bush dressed in a dramatic corseted bubble dress and Harris in a golden suit with a cropped jacket.
In a joint Instagram post, Harris and Bush revealed the dress code was “medal-worthy.”
“Anna and Pharrell said the dress code is ‘medal-worthy,’” they wrote. “Bonus points for home country designers. And us? We said we’ll make it 🇺🇸 AND 🏳️🌈 @csiriano understood the assignment #Olympics”
With the 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony on Friday, there was more celebrity fashion to be seen. This included looks from performers Lady Gaga and Céline Dion and appearances from Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Emma Chamberlain, Pharrell Williams and more.
Lady Gaga & Céline Dion
Lady Gaga and Céline Dion opened the 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony while wearing custom-made pieces from the quintessential French fashion house, Dior.
Gaga — the event’s first act — celebrated the spirit of the French cabaret with a rendition of French dancer, singer and actress Zizi Jeanmarie’s “Mon Truc en Plumes.”
The performance — which was staged at the tip of the île Saint-Louis in the middle of the Seine River — was first conceived in 1961 by Roland Petit, a choreographer for whom Christian Dior designed ballet costumes. The cult hit, which translates to “My Thing with Feathers,” was reflected in Gaga’s black and pink feathered outfit.
The look, which Maria Grazia Chiuri designed, featured a black satin bustier and matching panties crafted by the house of Cadolle. The look also featured a cropped jacket and a pink and black feathered skirt. The ensemble was completed with black opera gloves and a matching feather headdress created by Stephen Jones.
“I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris Olympics 2024 this year,” Gaga wrote in an Instagram post following her performance. “I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song — a song to honour the French people and their tremendous history of art, music and theatre.”
Following Gaga’s performance, Céline Dion performed Edith Piaf’s “Hymme à l’Amour,” from the second floor of the Eiffel Tower — over 410 feet above the ground.
Her appearance marked her first live performance since 2021 when she was forced to cancel the remainder of her Courage World Tour plans after being diagnosed with a rare condition of stiff person syndrome.
The singer also wore a custom-made Dior outfit for the occasion. The look, also designed by Grazia Chiuri, is a white silk georgette gown embroidered with sequins and, according to an article from Harper’s Baazar, more than 1,600 feet of fringing, studded with thousands of silver beads that shimmered under the spotlight.
“I’m honoured to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favourite cities,” Dion wrote in an Instagram post. “Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance. All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you.”
Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo
Ariana Grande stepped out at the 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony in a custom Thom Brown powder-pink silk look, clearly taking inspiration from her “Wicked” character Glinda.
The look came complete with a bow at the waist, a long hair bow white silk gloves and custom pink Thom Brown shoes.
Grande attended the event alongside her “Wicked” co-star, Cynthia Erivo, who d channeled her inner Elphaba.
Erivo wore a strapless emerald green gown that featured exaggerated hips. She paired the dress with a matching flat-brimmed hat, stiletto pumps and gold jewelry.
This isn’t the first time Grande and Erivo have found inspiration from their upcoming “Wicked” roles, opting for coordinating pink and green looks at the Oscars, Cinemacon and The Mat Gala this year.
Zendaya
Actress Zendaya and American stylist Law Roach brought their iconic dressing method to the Paris Olympics.
After working together at the end of last week in Paris — Zendaya attending the Prelude to the Olympics party hosted by the Foundation Louis Vuitton in a shimmering black Louis Vuitton gown and slicked-back blonde hair — the pair has done it once again, this time taking the Olympic theme a bit more literal.
In a Saturday Instagram post by Roach, the “Challengers” star can be seen sporting a vintage white Jean-Charles de Castelbajac romper. The piece — which mimics the iconic Olympic rings with circular red and blue pockets and yellow, green and black tubing around the head, arm and leg openings — is from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2008 “Sportacus” collection.
The actress paired the baggy, terry cloth romper with a pair of laceless On sneakers — a nod to her recent multiyear campaign collaboration with the brand.
“Let the games begin,” Roach wrote in an Instagram post. “All ready for the @olympics wearing archival @jcdecastelbajac from 2008 and sneakers from @on 📸 @anthonyprinceleslie Thank You @mojifarhatvintage”
Although these celebrities have already left their mark on the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, there is much more to celebrate as the competition continues.
