“Short n’ Sweet,” the sixth studio album from pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter, was released on all streaming platforms on Friday, and with it a blood-thirsty music video starring “Wednesday” actress Jenna Ortega.
The campy video directed by Dave Meyers for the album’s lead-off track “Taste,” showcases Carpenter and Ortega violently attacking each other over a boy — played by Canadian actor Rohan Campbell — and looking absolutely glamorous while doing it.
In just the first few seconds of the video, Carpenter sings a threatening lullaby while assessing an arsenal of deadly weaponry, ultimately reaching for the elegant Prada Monochrome Soft Matte Lipstick in the mauve shade Tonka, using a knife as her mirror to apply it.
This isn't the first time Carpenter picked a Prada lip product for a music video. In her June 6 “Please, Please, Please” music video, the pop star wore a Prada Moisturizing Balm in the shade Astral Pink.
In another scene, Ortega is shown looking off a terrace wearing a black top, pink skirt and a pair of gold ultra-high block heels. This trend has become increasingly popular, with metallic heels being worn on the red carpet by model Kate Upton and actress Brie Larson.
After attempting to murder Ortega and falling from the terrace, Carpenter is shown wearing a now-blood-stained blue top and black capri pants, complimented with a pair of glossy, baby-blue pointed-toe heels.
As the video continues, Carpenter — now in need of medical attention — is shown at a hospital wearing a blood-stained light pink dress with white polka dots and a pair of bright pink Amina Muaddi platform heels.
The pump, known as the Yigit Pump, features a 150 mm. heel and a thin strap that buckles around the ankle. The shoe also comes in a black, satin finish and retails for about $1,335, according to the Amina Muaddi website.
Carpenter sits up on the hospital bed, revealing a hole in her chest — an apparent reference to Goldie Hawn’s character in Robert Zemeckis’ 1992 film “Death Becomes Her.”
Ortega enters the hospital ready to strike back wearing an all-white, off-the-shoulder nurse get-up, topped off with a nurse’s cap and an eye patch — covering her wound from the previous scene — an apparent reference to the iconic character Nurse Ratched (Lousie Fletcher) from Miloš Forman’s 1975 film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
In a later scene, Carpenter attacks Ortega — wearing a gorgeous white nightgown and robe — while she and Campbell are in the shower. As Ortega chases Carpenter down the steps, she is seen wearing a gold nightgown and black, feathered robe.
The gown was later revealed in an Instagram post to be the Glitter Slip Dress from lingerie brand For Love & Lemons.
“Out now: Taste with @jennaortega wearing The Glitter Slip Dress for @sabrinacarpenter 's latest release 🤍 #forloveandlemons,” read the post’s caption.
By the end of the video, it’s the boyfriend who suffers a brutal death. Leaving the funeral, Ortega and Carpenter wear black gowns and pumps, another tribute to Meryl Streep and Hawn’s devious gowns from the final scenes of “Death Becomes Her.”
Ortega’s thigh-high slit reveals a pair of black Jimmy Choo Max platform heels, which includes a curved strap across the toes and the ankle.
